The Secret To A Pimple-Free Face Is A Good Cleansing Regimen

It is actually unlikely that one can get rid of pimples overnight. Many so-called quick remedies that promise to vanish away your pimples in less than 24 hours are most of the time ineffective. The problem with some of these quick-fix solutions is that they can even worsen a swollen acne instead of treating it. So don’t believe all those quick-fix cures that you hear about instead study each remedy and see if they make sense at all.

Here are some of the most ridiculous methods I have encountered that promise to help one get rid of pimples overnight:

1. That toothpaste helps stop swelling of the acne. I am not very sure whether this is necessary because when toothpaste hardens on the acne, its removal may be difficult and could cause the acne to erupt and eventually lead to scarring.

2. Some believe that crushed garlic cloves applied on the acne would also help reduce swelling. I would not advise anyone to do this because this is going to be painful and could further inflame the acne.

3. That strawberry leaves when placed on the acne also reduce swelling. This may be unnecessary because it is just impossible to cure a swollen acne overnight.

The appearance of pimples is as natural as growing up among teenagers. During this age, our sebaceous glands are very active in producing sebum which is actually oil that goes to and clogs the pores of the skin. The skin has plenty of bacteria that can feast on the oil or sebum found on the pores and when this happens the skin gets irritated and inflamed.

The skin on the face which is very sensitive is most especially prone to pimple formation.

The best way to deal with pimples is to devise a cleansing regimen that can remove excess oil and dirt from the face and thus prevent possible infection and further worsening of the pimple.

Below is a cleansing regimen that can be done twice daily:

1. Wet face with warm water. This would open the pores and help dissolve the oil away. Cleanse face with an anti-acne facial wash. Work the liquid soap into a foam by gently massaging face in circular motion. Wash off soap with warm water again. To close the skin pores, pour cold water on the face.

2. Pat the skin dry with a clean towel. Remove dead skin cells from the face by exfoliating. Simply massage the entire face with exfoliating cream for a few minutes then wash off with water.

3. To help dry up the pimples, use hydrogen peroxide. Dab a tiny amount of the peroxide on the pimples with a clean finger and let dry.

The regimen above may not help you get rid of pimples overnight but over time it can improve the skin’s condition and make your face pimple-free all the time.

An Overview on Acne

When Acne Attacks: Your skin’s oil glands are affected by a disease known as Acne. Your pores connect the oil glands that are under the skin. Sebum is the oily substance that is produced by the oily glands. The follicle is a canal that connects your pores and oily glands. Dead skin cells are carried by oil inside the follicles to the surface of your skin. Through the follicle a thin hair can grow out of the skin. A pimple is developed when the follicle of a skin gland gets blocked.

Face, neck, back, chest and shoulders are the places where mostly pimples are formed. Acne is not at all injurious to health but it does leave a mark or even a scar on your skin if you do not take care of it correctly.

The developing stages of Acne: A plug is formed when at times the hair, sebum, and skin cells form a cluster. Swelling takes place because of the bacteria in the plug. When the plug starts to break down a pimple is formed. There are many kinds of pimples; some of them are whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules, nodules, cysts etc.

Whiteheads:- These type of pimples are found to stick under the skin's surface.

Papules:- These pimples appear to be soft and can be seen as small pink bulges.

Blackheads:- These type of pimples are black in color and are found risen above the skin's surface. These appear to be black but it is not due to the accumulated dirt.

Cysts:- These pimples too are found to be deep and painful. But these pimples are filled with pus and can form scars.

Nodules:- These pimples are found deep within the skin. These appear to be large and are painful solid pimples.

Getting Rid of Acne Scars

The 1st step in getting rid of acne and pimples scars is to decide whether you want to give it time to heal naturally or whether you would like to speed up the process with the help of active acne treatment. Most acne scars fade naturally, but it may take as long as 12 months or more, if you do not undergo any active acne treatment. And if you have a big event coming up, you may not want to wait that long. Fortunately today there are several effective methods for removal of acne scars and get acne free skin.

Professional Help to Reduce Acne Scars
The choice of acne treatment primarily depends upon the severity of the scars. Milder scars can be removed using chemical peels or microdermabrasion. These can be done by a qualified dermatologist or a beauty practitioner. For more severe scars dermabrasion, laser techniques and punch techniques can be used.

For best results from all of these methods you must first get your acne under control.

Natural Remedies for Acne Scars
Natural acne remedies and home remedies for acne scar removal have not been medically proven, but a lot of people try these out with sometimes good results. One of the main reasons for trying out natural remedies is that they have lesser side effects. Aloe vera is highly recommended for scar removal of all types including acne scars. Other substances that are recommended include turmeric, papaya and sandalwood powder. These can be made into a paste with rose water and applied on the affected areas. Do not use milk as a mixing agent as it is likely to make the skin more oily leading to more acne and acne scars.

Substances rich in antioxidants such as tomatoes and carrots are also considered effective in getting rid of acne scars and are used extensively as home remedies for acne.

Prevention of Acne Scars
As in most situations, prevention is better than cure, so the best acne treatment is to prevent getting acne and if at all you get acne then you need to take care to stop them from turning into ugly scars.

To reduce the risk of acne and pimples, you need to keep your skin clean and oil free. Wash your face often with a mild soap. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated. If you have acne resist the urge to scratch or squeeze them so that you can prevent pimples from turning into scars. If you suffer from severe acne, then consult a dermatologist without delay and start yourselves on drugs for acne treatment.

The more you wait, the more difficult it will be to get a complete cure for acne.

Acne, Acne Go Away !

Fancy waking up one day and seeing a freaky yellowish acne outgrowth on your face ?

What a nightmare it is !

Watch your diet closely and avoid oily food. And always cleanse your mouth regularly !

I have been through this before and it certainly was not a pleasant experience for me during my teenage days.

Do something about your diet and not sit and do nothing if you have a pimple / acne outbreak. Take good care of your skin as otherwise, "pothole" scars may remind on your face forever.

Acne in General

Having gone through the teenage stage where I had acne, I can understand how it feels by teens nowadays especially in this uber modern and feature perfect society.

It can bring nightmares especially when you are going out on a date and having to discover an acne outgrowth on your face.

Anyways, acne is part and parcel of growing up. Just watch your diet, be careful not to take too much oily food.

And keep your face fresh and clean at all times, if possible. I make it a habit to carry around a facial blotter or wet tissues with me when I am outside so that I can clean my face every now and then in the absence of a suitable cleanser.

Dealing with Acne

You can clear your acne by using OTC or Over the Counter medicines like Neutrogena. This should be basically used for a more serious case of acne. However, you should be very careful while using it because it may have adverse side-effects on your acne. Some steps or non-prescription treatments can also be effective to get rid of your acne problems.

If you are suffering from back acne in the form of white heads, black heads, cysts, pustules, or lesions, which are not only painful but also very irritating. You can get relief from this sort of acne by washing regularly with the help of any good anti-bacterial soap. Cleansers with a salicylic base should be used.

Treating acne scars is very important because that is quite an agonizing experience. Scars can be treated by using laser treatments. Licensed and trained dermatologists perform these treatments. In this case, the top most layer of the skin is being removed. Thus it leaves a smooth and unscarred skin. However, the healing process can be little time consuming.

Dermabrasion is a similar process like the laser treatment where the upper layer of the skin is being removed. In this case, a rotating device is used rather than the laser.

An ‘oatmeal cleanser’ can also be used for removing the scars of acne. Honey is another product that helps to remove the acne scars. Honey helps to kill those bacteria that cause acne.

The relationship between acne and diet has been there from the very beginning. Certain foods help in triggering acne to a great extent. It has been found out from studies that not consuming some foods such as yeasty savories, dairy products, refined carbohydrates and hydrogenated oils can effectively reduce the risk of acne to a considerable extent.

However, it has also been stated that no single food item can reduce acne, a combination of many foods can actually reduce the chances of acne formation. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables along with proper exercises can keep acne formation at bay significantly.

The most crucial regime for acne treatment is consistency. Whatever treatment you choose, try to be consistent with it. As far as over the counter items are concerned, using salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, sulfur and/or resorcinol are often used as a combined agent. Salicylic acid is basically used in the cleansers and soaps in the treatment regime initially. Benzoyl peroxide basically acts as the oil and anti bacterial eliminator.

Higher amounts of ‘benzoyl peroxide’ would show effective results in case of cystic torso acne. On the other hand, little concentration of salicylic acid (2%) would lead to a gradual peeling of the outer skin. The clogged pores will eventually loosen out. The regime of the acne treatment should be planned carefully.

Social embarrassment, reduced self-esteem, depression, unemployment and social withdrawal can result in extreme cases of acne problems. People suffering from severe acne conditions are often diagnosed as having BDD (Body dysmorphic disorder) as well as Psychogenic excoriation. In case of BDD (Body dysmorphic disorder), the person suffering from acne is pre-occupied with some sort of normal appearance which can disrupt the daily functioning of the individual. He can also suffer from extreme amounts of dissatisfaction.

In case of Psychogenic excoriation, the person keeps picking or scratching the normal skin having minor irregularities. Acne problems can even lead to substance abuse, behavioral problems and even suicidal attempts. Teenagers are mostly at a high risk to suffer from psychological problems due to acne.

And so with my generalistic overview of acne, I start my blog on acne issues and home remedies. Just come on by as I detail out the various natural ways of getting rid of your acne problems vis-a-vis commercial acne cleansing solutions.
