Acne in General

Having gone through the teenage stage where I had acne, I can understand how it feels by teens nowadays especially in this uber modern and feature perfect society.

It can bring nightmares especially when you are going out on a date and having to discover an acne outgrowth on your face.

Anyways, acne is part and parcel of growing up. Just watch your diet, be careful not to take too much oily food.

And keep your face fresh and clean at all times, if possible. I make it a habit to carry around a facial blotter or wet tissues with me when I am outside so that I can clean my face every now and then in the absence of a suitable cleanser.

Dealing with Acne

You can clear your acne by using OTC or Over the Counter medicines like Neutrogena. This should be basically used for a more serious case of acne. However, you should be very careful while using it because it may have adverse side-effects on your acne. Some steps or non-prescription treatments can also be effective to get rid of your acne problems.

If you are suffering from back acne in the form of white heads, black heads, cysts, pustules, or lesions, which are not only painful but also very irritating. You can get relief from this sort of acne by washing regularly with the help of any good anti-bacterial soap. Cleansers with a salicylic base should be used.

Treating acne scars is very important because that is quite an agonizing experience. Scars can be treated by using laser treatments. Licensed and trained dermatologists perform these treatments. In this case, the top most layer of the skin is being removed. Thus it leaves a smooth and unscarred skin. However, the healing process can be little time consuming.

Dermabrasion is a similar process like the laser treatment where the upper layer of the skin is being removed. In this case, a rotating device is used rather than the laser.

An ‘oatmeal cleanser’ can also be used for removing the scars of acne. Honey is another product that helps to remove the acne scars. Honey helps to kill those bacteria that cause acne.

The relationship between acne and diet has been there from the very beginning. Certain foods help in triggering acne to a great extent. It has been found out from studies that not consuming some foods such as yeasty savories, dairy products, refined carbohydrates and hydrogenated oils can effectively reduce the risk of acne to a considerable extent.

However, it has also been stated that no single food item can reduce acne, a combination of many foods can actually reduce the chances of acne formation. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables along with proper exercises can keep acne formation at bay significantly.

The most crucial regime for acne treatment is consistency. Whatever treatment you choose, try to be consistent with it. As far as over the counter items are concerned, using salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, sulfur and/or resorcinol are often used as a combined agent. Salicylic acid is basically used in the cleansers and soaps in the treatment regime initially. Benzoyl peroxide basically acts as the oil and anti bacterial eliminator.

Higher amounts of ‘benzoyl peroxide’ would show effective results in case of cystic torso acne. On the other hand, little concentration of salicylic acid (2%) would lead to a gradual peeling of the outer skin. The clogged pores will eventually loosen out. The regime of the acne treatment should be planned carefully.

Social embarrassment, reduced self-esteem, depression, unemployment and social withdrawal can result in extreme cases of acne problems. People suffering from severe acne conditions are often diagnosed as having BDD (Body dysmorphic disorder) as well as Psychogenic excoriation. In case of BDD (Body dysmorphic disorder), the person suffering from acne is pre-occupied with some sort of normal appearance which can disrupt the daily functioning of the individual. He can also suffer from extreme amounts of dissatisfaction.

In case of Psychogenic excoriation, the person keeps picking or scratching the normal skin having minor irregularities. Acne problems can even lead to substance abuse, behavioral problems and even suicidal attempts. Teenagers are mostly at a high risk to suffer from psychological problems due to acne.

And so with my generalistic overview of acne, I start my blog on acne issues and home remedies. Just come on by as I detail out the various natural ways of getting rid of your acne problems vis-a-vis commercial acne cleansing solutions.
